* Asceticism in restraining yourself is not equal to godliness. Those who are married must love and respect their spouse, using their own gift from God. This will be their testimony for God and also a protection against lustful passion (v. 2-7). Following the Lord’s teaching, the apostle Paul did not approve of divorce.

* We have been “bought by God at a price” (v. 20). Since then, we should orient our words and deeds to glorify God. We are “bought at a price” — how costly the redemption is! We were once enslaved to sins. Now we are ransomed to be the bondservants of God. Our life should be spent to glorify God!

* Prayer request from elderly Sister Chiu / 趙師母, Toronto – Dear brothers and sisters, in an arranged medical check and CT scan, a tumour was found in my liver. I am not sure if it is benign or malignant. I don’t plan to have another round of lab test however…. I sometimes feel pain in my right abdomen, and I will take painkillers. Now I have swelling and leaky legs. Appetite is not good. Frequent urination. My eyesight is getting worse. I feel tired and need to sleep often. But I am satisfied if I can stay on like the present. (Note: Sister Chiu is 99. She loves God and has a passion to share the gospel. She is a long-time reader of the Ark Channel. This is her plea for saints’ prayers for her to experience the transcendent peace of God.)

* Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! (v33). All is God’s grace. * Do we ever think that we are more spiritual and superior than others because we belong to a certain denomination or institution? The truth of the cross is the power of God! Our only sense of identity and success is Christ!

* Holy God, we know we have sinned and ultimately sinned against You. There maybe people watching or listening to this message at this very moment who have never approached You with a repentant heart, who have never embraced Jesus to be the answer for their sin. I pray that by Thy Holy Spirit, You would draw such people to Yourself and help them to know how much You love them regardless how much they have sinned. What You have done is to save them from their sin and to give them a repentant heart so that through faith they can come before Christ and become Your children. * The Book of Romans alerts us to beware of divisive and inflammatory people. Nevertheless, the author lists out names whose beautiful examples and good work are worthy of remembrance. When the ministry teams in church can walk together in one heart, the world will be changed!

* The Book of Romans is a compass for life, helping to mature and transform us. It was written by Paul during his missionary journey. 70 Old Testament quotes are found. He learnt all these scriptures by heart. The power of gospel rests in the word of God. God’s word is able to make miracles, and to turn the worthless into His gemstones.

* On the basis of justification by faith, we are all God’s handiwork. Those with weaker faith must be respected, no matter what happens, do not let a brother fall, avoid destroying one another, thereby destroying God’s handiwork!

* “Calls those things which does not exist as though they did” means God brings the non-existent into existent. Praise God for His might and power of resurrection, to bring us from non-existent into existent, from the old creation into the new creation!

* Yang Endian born without hands was an abandoned baby, adopted by the founder of the Christian Mountain Nursery in Taiwan. When she reached primary school, she learnt that she was an adopted child and asked, “They say you are not my mother, you have a hundred children! The mother replied, “They don’t have a mother and a father, God wants me to take care of them including you.” Grace grew up and by the Lord’s grace became an outstanding artist, painting with her feet and becoming internationally renowned.
