* Robert HOOKE, the scientist who discovered the law of elasticity, produced the microscope and mercuric thermometer, earning the reputation of “king of invention”. Born ugly, troubled by ill health, he could not understand why his father, a pastor , chose to live simple and poor in a remote island, caring for prisoners.
